The following are some frequently asked questions and their answers:

Q: How much do the services you provide cost?
A: The agency has a sliding fee scale. So, the fee for each service depends on family size and income. No one is turned away for inability to pay. Some services are provided without charge to the user.

Q: My doctor referred me to your agency. Does that mean OHIP will cover my counselling costs?
A: No. Unfortunately, the counselling services we provide are not insured under OHIP.

Q: What qualifications do your counsellors have?
A: All of our counsellors have a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling.

Q: Are the services that you provide confidential?
A: Yes. All services within the agency are provided in a strictly confidential manner. However, we are, at times, required to release information if:
a. we are ordered to by the courts
b. we are concerned about harm to yourself and/or others

Q: If I come for counselling as part of an Employee Assistance Program, will my employer be notified?
A: No. As with all the services we provide, your files will be strictly confidential.

Q: Are you affiliated with the Children's Aid or F&CS?
A: No, the name is the similar, but we are a separate organization.

Q: What can a case manager do for me?
A: A Case Manager will assist you to link with services in the community that are available to children and adults with developmental disabilities. A Case Manager can help you to prepare for meetings and advocate for needed services. Case management is not a 'hands-on' therapy for yourself or your child but provides a service coordination and support role.

Q: Who can get a Case Manager?
A: Anyone who lives in Wellington County and has a developmental handicap.

Q: What is a developmental disability?
A: Developmental Disability is the current term in use to refer to intellectual disability. It is distinguished from learning disability, temporary developmental delay, and mental illness.

Q: How do I get a Case Manager?
A: Call Access/Intake/Referral at (519) 824-4015 or toll free at 1-877-216-1116.

Q: How do I access your developmental services?
A: Contact Access Information and Referral (AIR) for Developmental Services at 573-824-4015 or 1-877-216-1116. All referrals for any developmental services in Wellington County are routed through AIR.

Q: Is Case Management a free service?
A: The Case Management program is 100% funded through the provincial government. There is no cost to service users.

Q: When can I make a referral for the Passport program?
A: Referrals can be accepted at age 18. Passport funding can start after a person's schooling is finished.

Q: Do I need a referral to get service?
A: No. You need only call or e mail us and we will arrange an appointment.

Q: Do you provide an internet or telephone service?
A: You can certainly request a telephone interview and we will see if we are able to respond appropriately to you question. As far as internet counselling goes, we hope to have that service available by the fall of 2007. Please contact us for further updates.
